Still in Oakland. Flying to Chile tomorrow.
I've told like fanw and mlc I saw Jane Saturday; I saw her Friday. Yes, I'm pedantic.
Saturday we went to the Ferry Plaza market, where I found dates but not honey dates and the prices were high: $8 for medjool vs. $3 in Union Plaza back in the day.
$3.50 for one pomegranate though it was a very red and juicy one.
Met Pick One and Lee, had good pastor taco, enh fish one.
I got off downtown, did some used jacket shopping, I hate the mass but I won't totally freeze in the Andes or Boston.

Sunday B and I went to Zachary's, a famous and very popular pizza place in Rockridge. So popular I don't think I'd ever been before.
Sausage was supposedly Italian by default. Had a Chicago stuffed pizza with sausage, garlic, and onion, as I figured the stuffed nature would like cook the onion. It was very good, though even better with extra oregano and red chili flakes. I should have stopped at 2 slices of a 12".

B&R have been drowning me in potential reading. Food science books, Tony Judt, DFW on dictionaries ("Tense Present", very good, you can find a copy online.)

Sunday afternoon I went for a walk, found Piedmont, and a cemetery. The very first headstone was Jewish with a UU chalice. Heh. They had a nice fountain, and I realized I could position myself to see a rainbow as much as I wanted.

Quiet Monday. Saw Jacques last night, at Burma Superstar, a lot fancier than the one where I lived.

At Yank Sing, fmous and expensive dim sum place downtown. Admittedly 3pm probably isn't their best time, but I'm not that impressed. $9 for 6 potstickers, $6 for 4 ha gow, neither great. Triangular shrimp and vegetable weren't bad. Although I'm also thinking that I should accept that while I can like it, shrimp doesn't seem to make me ecstatic the way it did my mother. The tea isn't that good either, a glass pot veering from too hot and blnd to still too hot and getting bitter. Admittedly that's often the way of Chinese teas but still, there's been better.

There's a new streetcar line! Third street T, down the east side of the city. Still no G into the Richmond, though for that you want a subway, not a streetcar. 21 bus no longer goes all the way to my old home.

Navigation frustrations, I'll censor. Rand across the Wednesday UN plaza market. No dates. Asian art museum checks bags, and forces them to be checked in too. Is there some wave of museum crime we haven't heard about?

Indonesian puppet arts: wayang golek, wayang menak

It's a good layout of the museum, and lots of informative panels. Nostalgic familiarity of some of the art; I went to the old one a fair bit. It's where the main library used to be -- so where's the library now?

Oh, right next door. Guess the museum took over the old main library, not the overspaced underbooked one I knew.

Europe transit is a lot friendlier to dogs than BART is.

Went to Embarcadero, pilgrimage to the Bay if not the ocean. Straight through the ferry building, recognizing stuff from Saturday. Also, I never really explored the place before; there's an elevated viewing area, though I don't think either of my cameras are good at night.

Radio Shack doesn't have the three prongs in a row plugs used by Italy and South America. Clerk said she'd never seen them in non airport stores.

Dropped by T-Mobile thinking about getting a plan or at least emergency prepaid. Very busy, actually... Got told their prepaid doesn't do international roaming. Also that the non locked contract would take 10 minutes to set up, though transferring my number would take 2-48 hours and take an account number I don't know about. Tempting, but by then I had 22 minutes to meet Dan and Blake.

Of course, then I spent time boosting my BART ticket and just missed a train. 11 minutes to the next train, 13 to the one after that. Goddamn staggering.

I'll be hanging out in the Santiago airport between 9 am and 2 pm on the 12th on my way to Argentina. That would be really weird if we overlapped. Although we probably wouldn't be in the same terminal, anyhow.

...I think we do overlap. Arrive 12:35 pm, leave 14:15 for La Serena. Most of that will be changing flights and buying a SIM card if I can.

Also weird: when I went to Oakland last year, I transferred in Cincinatti, and met Sara and Heather from LARPs on their way back from Wales.
